A round of applause for everyone! We have successfully transitioned from virtual and hybrid learning back to in-person learning. It’s certainly a learning curve after this past year and as we return to the classroom your child will return to physical writing as opposed to virtually submitting assignments. A transition like this can be tricky. Here are some tips for easing your child back into writing after virtual learning.

Postural control and endurance is an important skill to help with writing so making sure to get the kids bodies ready for writing through movement is also important. Examples include animal walks, yoga poses, or obstacle courses.

Fine motor strength is a very important skill for writing, therefore completing various fine motor activities can help students get back into writing. Examples for this might include playing with playdough, putty, crafts, fine motor games such as sneaky snacky squirrel.

When practicing letters, you can have the kids compose the letters using various materials such as sand, playdough, tracing on your hand, beads, cheerios to make it more fun.

When practicing words and sentences you can incorporate writing into a kid’s favorite game, have them write the ingredients or steps to a favorite cooking activity, or write what they want at the grocery store or a video game they may want.
