DC Summer Camp, VA Summer Camp, & Therapeutic Groups

Our DC summer camp consists of a full day, with morning occupational therapy provided by Skills on the Hill and afternoon speech therapy provided by Capitol Kids Therapy. Our Arlington, VA summer camp is a half day of occupational therapy provided by Skills on the Hill. We also offer week-long therapeutic groups all summer long at both locations. Examples of areas covered in therapeutic groups include executive functioning, social skills, bike writing, and handwriting. DC Summer Camp: Camp Friendship – Occupational & Speech Therapy Program

What

Camp Friendship DC is a full-day therapeutic program for children ages 4 to 6 years old. Each day will consist of morning occupational therapy sessions provided by Skills on the Hill and afternoon speech therapy sessions provided by Capitol Kids Therapy.

When

Campers meet daily from 8:30am to 2:30pm, Monday through Friday, June 22 through July 31, 2020.

Curriculum

Mornings are led by occupational therapists and afternoons led by speech-language pathologists. Each week, children participate in theme-based activities while further developing their social, fine & gross motor skills, auditory processing, receptive and expressive language, oral motor, and sensory processing abilities. A daily blog is available online so that you may experience your child’s activities, giving you plenty of conversation starters for talking with your child about their day.

  • Music & Movement
  • Craft Time

Requirements

All potential campers are required to participate in a play date to ensure their needs and abilities are an appropriate match for the group.

Costs

The DC summer camp program fee is $5500 ($2950 payable to Skills on the Hill and $2550 payable to Capitol Kids Therapy). Registration and a $1000 deposit by check to each practice are due by April 2nd. The remaining balance is due by May 1st. Families will be provided with detailed invoices to use for insurance reimbursement; however, coverage is not guaranteed. Prior to contacting your provider, please consult with both Skills on the Hill and Capitol Kids Therapy for specific information and questions to ask your insurance plan.

Sessions take place at our Arlington, VA office located at 2301 Columbia Pike, Suite 125, Arlington, VA, 22204.

Summer Therapeutic Groups

What

Our summer therapeutic groups consist of one week of group therapy sessions, 60-90 minutes in the afternoon for five days.

When

Therapeutic groups are available all summer long.

Groups are available at both our Arlington, VA & Washington, DC locations.

Groups Offered

REBOUNDERS – Trampoline group targeting endurance, motor skills, balance, and social skills.  Ages 5-7

MASTERMIND – Group focusing on planning, problem solving, and social skill development through use of different collaborative board games. Ages 8-10

GET SET FOR SCHOOL – Group focusing on readiness for preschool including sustaining attention, following directions, turn taking, and group activities. Ages 3-4

WRITER’S WORKSHOP – Group focusing on increasing writing legibility, speed, and automacity.  Ages 7-8

BIKE RIDING GROUP – Individualized bike riding instruction in a small group format. 10 step method used to address challenges with balance, motor planning, and insecurity/fear toward learning to ride. Ages 5 to 10

LITTLE CHEFS – Group focusing on planning, sequencing, motor skills, and social skills using simple cooking activities. Ages 5-8

SUPERHERO ACADEMY – Social Thinking/Superflex curriculum used in a group setting to increase social/emotional awareness. Ages 5-8

CREATIVE BUILDERS – Social-motor group addressing teamwork, problem solving, flexible thinking, and motor skills. Ages 5-8

COOL CRAFTERS – Group craft activities focusing on development of hand strength and fine motor coordination, sequencing, and visual perception. Ages 5-8
